Acorn Childcare Centre feels that it is vital to work in partnership with parents/carers.
We always welcome parent/carer’s comments and suggestions and feel that it is important to consult on a regular basis whilst always respecting the parents as the child’s first educator.
During your child’s settling-in sessions prior to starting, you will meet with the team in the room in which your child will be based and we will gather all the key information from you about your child; dietary requirements and preferences, sleep patterns and play and general behaviour.
This ensures that we can work together to follow your child’s routine and make him/her as comfortable as possible. We regularly send out questionnaires and feedback forms to parents/carers in order to help us reflect and continually improve the smooth running of our nursery. In addition, parents/carers are welcome to join us at any time of the day, to take part in our nursery activities. This can be joining us for singing time or, accompanying us on a walk in the school grounds or sharing a skill that you may have.
We also hold an annual parent/carer evenings where we will invite you to talk to your child’s key carer about their progress. In addition, we also hold a leavers assembly, sports day, Christmas production and a variety of stay and play sessions where all our nursery’s families can come together to socialise and whilst spending time with the child in the nursery and school.
Perhaps you have a particular skill or talent which you would like to share with the children? Can you play a musical instrument or speak a foreign language – please do let us know!
For further information on how you can support your child through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) please visit our Learning Page.
All the children who attend the Acorn Childcare centre have a personal on-line Learning Journey which records photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage, to build up a record of your child’s experiences during their time with us.
We use Tapestry, a system, which is hosted in the UK on secure servers. These servers confirm to very high environmental standards and are proactively managed 24 hours a day.
Each Tapestry account has its own database and the code itself is developed using hack-resistant techniques. Filenames are encoded for uploaded, videos and images, making Tapestry a safe and secure on-line Learning Journey tool. The benefits to yourselves from Tapestry being on-line means you will have secure access (via a website which you login to using your email address and a password) to your child’s Learning Journey.
In addition to viewing our contributions, we encourage you to add to it by uploading photos and comments, or commenting on observations made by us.
Our "WOW" Board
Here at the Acorn Childcare centre, we get as excited as you do watching your child grow and develop, and would like to celebrate all their achievements – whether they happen at Nursery or at home with you.
We would love to hear from you about the things your child achieves. It helps us to create a ‘well-rounded’ picture of who your child really is.
These ‘Wow moments’ can tell us about anything of interest that you’d like to share with us. For example, your child’s favourite bedtime story, the day their first tooth fell out, how they built a tall Lego tower or wrote the first letter of her name and many more besides.
